Q: What is parkour?
A: Parkour is an art of movement in which you train the body and mind to move through any environment while overcoming obstacles.
Q: What does APEX mean?
A: APEX stands for Athletics, Play, and EXercise, the three paths to fitness we utilize through natural movement.
Q: What should I expect at parkour class?
A: Expect a challenging, fun workout based around the natural movement of the human body. Our classes begin with a thorough warm up. Next, we move on to the introduction and practice of new skills and movements. Finally, we end with a workout, stretch, and discussion of important topics relating to parkour.
Q: What do I need to do for my first class?
A: If you are a youth (6-11), feel free to drop in to any of our Youth Level 1 classes. For Teens and Adults, we have a free trial class on Saturdays called Parkour Onboading, or you can jump right into our Intro to Parkour program. Check out our New To APEX page for more information. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to familiarize yourself with the facility, get changed, and fill out our waiver (you must have a parent signature if under 18!). Our waiver can be found here.
Q: What do I wear?
A: We recommend athletic clothes and running shoes, but you can wear anything you are comfortable running around in.
Q: What should I bring?
A: Bring a water bottle and your sense of adventure.
Q: I am so sore the day after class, what should I do?
A: Even though we all did parkour as kids, you probably haven’t moved like this for years. Expect to be sore at first; it is a completely normal feeling for someone who is new to parkour! To help the soreness, we suggest you do some light exercise that day. Yes, it might hurt, but it will help quicken the recovery process! Other than that, don’t give up! Your body will adapt to the classes as time goes on.
Q: How does the “Intro to Parkour” program work?
A: Our intro program is an 6-class program for teens and adults designed to progress from class 1 to class 6. This course teaches the fundamentals of parkour, promotes a high level of physical fitness, and emphasizes the relationship between the two. Students will learn basic skills and to apply these skills to complete longer movement combinations and obstacle courses. It is highly recommended that students start on class 1 of the program so that they get the full experience of our progressive curriculum. After finishing the intro program, students graduate into level 1 and are able to attend many of our other movement classes.
Q: I think the Intro to Parkour classes will be too easy for me. Can I go straight to level 2 or 3?
A: We strongly recommend that everyone starts out in our Intro classes. Even if you are athletic or have trained on your own, you probably lack certain skills or fitness that will be expected of you in the level 2 and 3 classes.
Q: When do I get to jump rooftops and flip off walls?
A: When you can do 50 muscle ups and squat 500 lbs! But in all honesty, parkour is not about big jumps and flashy flips. We do not promote going on rooftops or taking big drops. However, as you master the fundamentals and develop a strong foundation of fitness, we will progress to harder, bigger, and more exciting skills.
Q: Do you have American Ninja Warrior Obstacles in your gym?
A: While we do train many of the athletes who participate on the show here at APEX Denver, we do not have any exact replicas of the obstacles used on the show. We can however recreate similar shapes using our current equipment to aid you in your training as well as teach you the techniques behind many of the shows obstacles using what we do have.
Q: Do you have showers and bathrooms?
A: We have 2 bathrooms/changing rooms but not showers.
Q: Do you take credit cards?
A: Yes. We take payments in cash, check, and all major credit cards.
Q: Is there nearby parking?
A: Yes, there is free parking in the front and back of the gym.
